Next Wednesday, May 22nd marks the anniversary date of HRH Prince of Wales visit to UforChange (insert applause here). During his visit to UforChange he not only shook the youths hands but took the initiative to get to know them. Strangely enough he made everyone giggle, even the grown men.
Here he meets our alumni who continue to work in the arts and help out with our Arts Social Enterprise! These three alumni all have side projects and attend school for arts related programs.
Throw Back Thursday to when His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales visited UforChange last May on his Royal Tour with his wife Camilla.
Watch as our instructors, Dj L’Oqenz and Sean Roman along with our youth teach Prince Charles how to drop a beat. I wonder if as a child Prince Charles wanted to be a rock star? Do you think when he went back home he purchased a turn table along with a vinyl copy of Lick, Sean Roman’s track?
To see L’Oqenz & Sean Roman battle it out on the tables, come to SKILLS!
This weekend UforChange participated in the Janes Walk!
Jane’s Walk celebrates the ideas and legacy of urbanist Jane Jacobs by getting people out exploring their neighbourhoods and meeting their neighbours. Free walking tours held on the first weekend of May each year are led by locals who want to create a space for residents to talk about what matters to them in the places they live and work.
With the warm weather upon us, what better way to welcome the summer sun then with an ice cold Sangria!
As many of you already know, UforChange is partnered with The Little Grape that could! Every time you purchase a bottle of Little Grape that Could wine from your local LCBO, you can log in online and choose an organization of your choice and the Little Grape that Could will donate a potion of the proceeds on your behalf!
Throughout the sumer UforChange will be sharing their favorite Sangria recipes featuring the Little Grape that Could wines!
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
1 Bottle of Little Grape That Could cabernet sauvignon
1 Lemon cut into wedges
1 Orange cut into wedges
1 Lime cut into wedges
2 Tbsp sugar
Splash of orange juice or lemonade
2 Shots of gin or triple sec (optional)
1 Cup of raspberries or strawberries (may use thawed or frozen)
1 Small can of diced pineapples (with juice)
4 Cups ginger ale
Pour wine into a large pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon, orange and lime into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and pineapple then add sugar, orange juice and gin. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale, berries and ice just before serving. If you’d like to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice. However, remember that the best Sangrias are chilled around 24 hours in the frig. - allowing the flavors to really marinate into each other.
Last night was a very special and BIG night for Christopher Paunil Designs aka our special projects & fashion lead and Chalo our ED. They were TOP 4 in the TFI (Toronto Fashion Incubator) New Labels Completion! Even though they did not stroll home with the grand prize, they left the show feeling confident and successful. That’s the thing about Chris and Chalo, no matter if they win or lose they alway see the positive side and opportunity of any experience.
Just want to say a special thank you, to the youth and staff who came out and supported Chris and Chalo! We all know 2013 will be a great year and we expect big things to come!

As some of you may already know His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales visited UforChange after the long weekend in May last year (2012). He took the TTC, mingled with our youth, learned how to spin a quick beat, posed for pictures and it was over in 40min or less.
The day started very early and it was EXTREMELY hot, considering our old headquarters had no air conditioning. So we are doing a countdown until the official UforChange & HRH anniversary.
Please note they are in no particular order of events, just whatever feels fitting at the moment in time.
The Prince of Wales just finished meeting the Fashion and Deejay youth. He now enters the top floor of UforChange with a big smile.
